The 2019 Royal Variety Performance welcomed back the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the London Palladium for a glittering night of variety, in aid of the Royal Variety Charity.

Robbie Williams saved the day by performing twice on the evening, the second time standing in for an unwell Sir Rod Stewart, who had fallen ill with a throat infection on the morning of the performance.

The full London cast of Cameron Mackintosh's new Mary Poppins musical was a real treat, featuring the 87-year-old Petula Clark and the amazing Zizi Strallen and Charlie Stemp. The Duchess remarked how upset the young Prince George and Princess Charlotte were in not being to attend the Performance, as it was way past their bedtime!

Comedy came in the form of the fabulous Frank Skinner and Kerry Godliman and the return of the Mischief Theatre's original cast from the ‘Play That Goes Wrong’ with their new show, ‘Groan Ups’.

The insanely talented family of musical prodigies, the Kanneh-Masons enthralled the audience with their riveting classical performance, but it was the 89-year-old winner of Britain's Got Talent, Chelsea Pensioner Colin Thackery, that stole the nation's hearts. His rendition of 'I Vow to Thee My Country' accompanied by fellow Chelsea Pensioners and the Royal Artillery's military band provided a spectacular finale that brought tears to the eyes of the audience.
